The hackathon titled Digital Fair Portal will take place on January 31 and February 1 at 365.labb in Banská Bystrica. The event will focus on digitalizing fair organization processes in the city of Revúca. Competing teams will be tasked with designing a system for seamless registration, reservation, and payment processing for fair vendors without the need for paper confirmations. The hackathon is part of the Hacknime.to project, organized by MIRRI SR and funded by the Recovery and Resilience Plan of the Slovak Republic.
The expected outcome is a modern system for fair management. The aim of the hackathon is to develop an advanced system for managing fair-related processes, simplifying vendor registrations. The solution should comply with the laws governing municipalities, ensuring its applicability to other cities and towns across Slovakia.
Connecting traditional events with modern technology
The city of Revúca regularly organizes fairs where vendors register by submitting paper applications, with booth selection being merely indicative. The city office manually processes the applications and updates the list of reserved spots on the city’s website.
“Our goal is to create a tool that facilitates communication and collaboration between the city, residents, and businesses. We expect practical solutions that will streamline fair management and connect traditional events with modern trends,” explained Július Buchta, the Mayor of Revúca.
Participants can gain valuable experience and win financial rewards
The hackathon is open to individuals and teams from all fields, including IT, engineering, design, and business. Event organizers recommend carefully assembling teams, ensuring a mix of IT specialists, idea makers, and individuals skilled in presenting solutions effectively to potential clients.
In addition to gaining valuable experience, participants have the chance to win financial prizes. A total of €6,000 will be awarded to the top three teams.
“We chose a hackathon format because it creates space for innovative ideas and allows young talents to showcase their fresh and unconventional perspectives. I encourage everyone with an idea or the desire to participate to sign up. Your creativity, energy, and knowledge can help modernize municipal management and make fair events more enjoyable for everyone,” added Mayor Buchta.
The registration link is available on the Digital Fair Portal hackathon website. Applications can be submitted until January 29 or until the event reaches full capacity. Participants can register as full teams or as individuals. Organizers will assign individual registrants to existing teams or form new ones from them.
